thesis:3dlakedatabase

Problem statement:

Most studies of the global impact of climate change on lake hydrodynamics rely on 1 dimensional models and data collected from a single, centrally located sampling site. However, the 3D hydrodynamic responses of the world's lakes to climate change remain understudied, despite the importance of 3D hydrodynamics (cyclonic circulation, seiches, upwelling) for lake ecosystem functioning.

The aim of the work:

Compile a database of lake temperature and dissolved oxygen from lakes which have data collected from multiple sampling locations. Use the data to develop statistical models which can predict 3D lake responses to climate change based on meteorological forcing data.

Method:

Literature search, data digitization, database creation, and data analysis.
